Community Love: A Tribute to Those Who Support and Uplift Our Communities - Maryam Safa Schneider, Applied Psychologist and Certified Coach

Some professional relationships begin with a single conversation. Others unfold over many years, shaped by shared interests, changing careers, and the unexpected ways our paths continue to cross.

My relationship with Maryam Safa Schneider is one of those.

I first met Maryam in 2011, when she was faculty in the Langara Yoga Teacher Training program. We reconnected in 2016, when Maryam participated in my Trauma-Informed Yoga Therapy training. Since then, we have stayed connected, continuing to share an interest in the intersections of psychology, the nervous system, yoga, resilience, and wellbeing.

What I appreciate about Maryam's work is the way she brings these interests together. Her work asks an important question: What happens to us when the way we work increasingly disconnects us from who we truly are?

In a world of constant notifications, screens, cognitive demands, and pressure to perform, it can be easy to lose touch with our emotions, attention, breath, and ability to notice what is happening within us before we simply push through.

Maryam is the founder of Numind Consulting and an applied psychologist and certified coach, with more than 20 years of experience in education, communication, mentoring, coaching, and learning design.

Through Numind, she offers EQ-i 2.0 and EQ 360 assessments and workshops, providing evidence-based tools for developing self-awareness and understanding how we perceive ourselves, relate to others, respond to challenges, and use emotional information.

She also offers coaching, including a 12-week program focused on stabilizing energy, building clarity, strengthening decision-making, and developing sustainable performance, as well as customized coaching tailored to individual goals and professional contexts.

Her workshops and talks explore emotional intelligence, resilience, performance, pressure, the nervous system and brain, and human behaviour at work.

Maryam's work also extends beyond Numind. As a coach with Pain BC, she supports people living with chronic pain through behaviour-change and self-management approaches. Through Futurepreneurs, she coaches emerging entrepreneurs as they navigate the challenges and overwhelm that can come with building a business.

Creativity, the arts, yoga, and embodied practices have all played an important role in Maryam's journey. That makes our long-standing connection particularly meaningful to me.

Although our professional paths have taken us in different directions, there is a common thread running through our work: how can we become more aware of what is happening within us so that we can respond to life and work with greater choice, connection, and intention?

After 15 years of knowing Maryam, I value the opportunity to continue that conversation—and to see how her work continues to evolve at the intersection of psychology, human behaviour, embodiment, and wellbeing.
